One of the highlights of the year, New York Comic-Con, was looking like being cancelled thanks to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. However, like a lot of events this year, it adapted and changed to become a virtual event so every fan of comics, superheroes, TV and film can have the chance to geek out once more. So, if they can adapt, what can we from a business perspective learn from them?
Assemble
This might sound obvious, especially this far into the pandemic, but you’d be surprised at how many companies are still reluctant to embrace virtual meetings and working from home. A third of UK employees are still working from the office as of August according to The Guardian. With Teams and Zoom becoming better and better with each passing month, surely these businesses should be considering a virtual way of working. Getting together from anywhere should be the norm, and hey, if it’s good enough for New York Comic Con…
J.A.R.V.I.S
As with any convention, meet and greets with the stars, merch and autographs are an integral part of the con experience. However, with the 2020 con having to change from the usual and put everything online, from the virtual schedule to virtual meet and greets, New York Comic Con has again shown how a large-scale event can be transposed seamlessly to a virtual setting.
One aspect of most companies that has seen the biggest change during the pandemic is the move to elearning. Having your staff do learning virtually as opposed to a classroom-based settings (where possible), is one of the easiest aspects for a business to adapt in these unprecedented times. Elearning can be for your everyday compliance training or more bespoke processes for an individual business, so it should be embraced wherever possible. Trust us, you’ll be using elearning as fluidly as Tony Stark uses J.A.R.V.I.S in no time.
