Project Aims.

Revolutionising how employees engage with L&D…

Their existing LMS was inflexible and failed to drive engagement with non-mandatory content, while time-consuming eLearning resulted in poor uptake and limited continuous development.

The bank envisaged a platform that would transform corporate learning from a checkbox exercise into an engaging, personalised journey. A vision that involved seamless access across devices, knowledge sharing across geographical boundaries, and intuitive skill based pathways for career development. They recognised that traditional training methods weren’t meeting the dynamic needs of their diverse workforce. Their ambitious goal was to create an ecosystem where employees could not only access mandatory training but actively pursue professional growth aligned with their career aspirations.

Our Approach.

We created MIO, a groundbreaking digital ecosystem that reimagined how banking professionals interact with learning content.

First introduced in 2019, MIO evolved from a Learning Experience Platform into a comprehensive Colleague Experience Platform that seamlessly integrated with Santander’s digital workplace. The platform revolutionized the employee experience through personalized learning pathways and bite-sized ‘Shorts’ content, while fostering collaboration through peer-led communities. With features spanning from portfolio management and skills endorsement to integrated coaching and mentoring, MIO supported career progression at every level. The native mobile app kept colleagues connected through push notifications, while streamlined event management and workflow automation enhanced the learning experience. The platform even extended to pre-joiners, ensuring a seamless onboarding journey from day one.

‘Shorts’ is a quick access point packed with fantastic bite-size learning for ongoing development, ‘Communities’, a Facebook style site that enabled collaboration between and within teams.

Other Connected Sites have since been added to the system, and stakeholders from HR and Talent have been involved with creating the user journey ‘Boxsets’ are a carefully curated collection of digital episodes relating to a single subject or topic relevant to a colleague’s role, geography or business area.

The Result.

MIO became deeply embedded in Santander’s culture, with impressive engagement metrics demonstrating its success. The platform achieved organic adoption pre-launch and has since transformed how employees interact with learning and development.

The platform has successfully created a culture of continuous learning, where development is not an event but part of what colleagues do every day. Its consumer-grade design and seamless integration with enterprise systems have made learning and career development an engaging daily activity.
